New social media site flays 'data-eating monster' Facebook in launch video
Social Media / UK
A new social network that aims to crush Facebook and, while they're at it, Google+ too, has been launched in the US with an "attack" video.
The claim to fame of UmeNow is that it is “the first and only ad-free social communication service in the world that is totally focused on privacy.”
The snag is that you have to pay for the privacy and lack of ads : After a one-month free trial, the fee is $6 a month.
UmeNow was founded in South Florida by Evelyn Castillo-Bach, who has been very vocal about online privacy.
She says of Facebook: “We will kill off the Facebook data eating monster.” She has called UmeNow’s marketing campaign “Facebook is Trash, National Privacy Celebration.”
The video, depicts a heroine (representing UmeNow) defending a person who is being followed by some sort of stalker (representing Facebook).
